Mit 2962 Metern ist die Zugspitze (ca. 1 1/2 Stunden von Oberstdorf entfernt), die bei Garmisch-Partenkirchen im Wettersteingebirge liegt, der höchste Berg Deutschlands. Über ihren Westgipfel verläuft die deutsch-österreichische Grenze. Viele Sport- und Freizeitmöglichkeiten am Berg sowie die traumhaften Aussichten, die man hier erhält machen die Zugspitze bei Deutschen und Österreichern zu einem sehr beliebten Ausflugsziel.

Den Gipfel der Zugspitze, der 1820 von Josef Naus erstmals bestiegen wurde, kann man entweder per Seilbahn oder über drei Normalwege erreichen. Von deutscher Seite aus bringen die Bayerische Zugspitzbahn und die Eibseeseilbahn täglich tausende Menschen auf den Gipfel.
